Functional Abilities / Capacity Evaluations

Functional Abilities Evaluations (FAE) are done to determine a patient’s physical abilities and limitations.  Evaluations include 4 hours of testing and may be completed in one day or on two subsequent days where the protocol is repeated on both days.

The FAE begins with a physiotherapy assessment and a number of questionnaires.

This is followed by a series of standardized physical tests to observe and measure the patient’s ability for reaching, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, pushing/pulling, gripping etc.

These abilities are compared to the demands of a given job to determine job suitability.

Following the evaluation, a detailed report containing testing outcomes, suggestions for work-related restrictions, and recommendations for future rehabilitation is provided to the requesting party.
